33 222 1 222 5-17-'o1: 3:14pm well, after yesterday, today was a very welcome relief. yesterday was like...the extremes. busy, and i think i experienced just about every emotion there is. today was just kind of laid back...nothing really happened, i haven't really been in much of a mood at all. but then again...the day isn't exactly over yet. still got colourguard rehersal at 6pm...but i have a feeling the day will pan out in much the same fashion as the first 15 hours. i got to conduct the orchestra today when we rehearsed my piece...it was my first time really conducting a group. i'd conducted a bit in sectionals, but i'd never brandished the baton before. i got up there and immediately understood john's wind ensemble shaking problem. my hand was shaking like nobody's buisness...but it got better after awhile. the only thing that made me nervous was that jess kept looking at me and laughing for whatever reason. that made me nervous. i've got notihng but compliments about the piece...and a few suggestions that have all been very well-thought-out and helpful. i'm enjoying this a ton...it's great to finally hear my music played by a real orchestra! i just have to put bow-markings in and dynamics...that's tomorrow. i also got the harp part for abram's pursuit half finished. i've never played for harp, never written for harp, but i volunteered to do this so that emily would have something to do. i think my part will sound really cool...it's tedious as hell, though. i go through the tiny tiny print of the score and pick out things for the harp to play. click them into sibelius. sometimes change an octave or put in a glissando. i put in a HUGE glissando in one part...i can't wait to hear it. oh man. that's the stuff, right there! i did NOT go to second hour today. there was ib testing, and i was one of two people who didn't take the test. yeah, right, like i was going to go all the way to the annex to sit there all hour and do nothing. and i expressed this opinion to dron when he saw me later. english was rather empty...five people showed up. we watched the end of much ado about nothing, one of my favorite shakespere works. "the world must be peopled!!!" that cracks me up! we will watch it again tomorrow, as well. then, i think we start the twelfth night. i'm liking this end-of-the-year kick-back here. three weeks. breeeeathe. anyway...i better run. gotta go practice my marching so i don't embarass myself at rehersal today. i was just about tripping over my own feet last week. ←/ b a c k w a r d / f o r w a r d /→ |
