"hey man, i..yes, i have to save, because..yes."

8-5-'o1: 8:44pm

once again, my monday student cancelled her lesson. this was good for me, however, since i had prettymuch cancelled all the rest of the lessons this week. i made a few phone calls last sunday and monday morning at 5:15am, i was headed for seattle on the greyhound.

don't get me started on the greyhound.

so i got a few extra days to hang with taco. we almost immediately made a pilgramage to the mall, where we searched in vain for new copies of rolling stone and tried on clothes...and somehow ended up coming home without buying ANYTHING. well...aside from some orange juliuses and food at taco time. have you ever had a mocha julius? it's sugar shock in a cup.

this non-purchasing state was partially due to the fact that i lefy my checkbook and card sitting next to the computer after paying some school fees. oops.

taco's mom was trying to kill me by feeding me good food. did you know they make ben & jerry's phish food in frozen yogurt form? it's very good, and much better for you. still, it didn't make up for my obsessive eating of the oreos in the cupboard. so much for losing weight by band camp.

wednesday we decided to go back to the mall...ESPECIALLY since that morning taco's dog maggie had dragged her purse into the family room and destroyed it, along with her wallet. the problem was that when we got to the bank so she could get some $$$ out, she had no ID. it had mistakenly got left out when she transferred everything to a smaller purse. so we had nothing to do, and about $6 total. verdict? we caught a bus and eventually ended up at a 7-11 about a mile from taco's place. where her, scooter, and i bought slurpees. taco and i got mountian dew slurpees. genius? i think so. sent me into a glucose frenzy, though.

and then...the green day show. whoooooo. i'll start with a short summary of the time leading up to when green day played:

I] we waited in a line snaking down the street outside the paramount. as we drove by it, we counted the number of people wearing converse. the chicks standing behind me thought they were all open-minded and punk rock but were really just very irritating. i held my tounge.

II] when we did get in, we were forced to sit on the ground in front of the stage. it reminded me of kindergarten. a ton of people complained and punk rockers "rebelled" by standing up [ ooooh so intimidating! ], but i really didn't mind it at all. it was effective pre-show crowd control...

III] which was shot to hell once everyone stood up. it was like there was a gigantic magnet at the frontandcenter part of the stage. this only got worse as the show went on.

IV] there were maybe five people taller than taco in the whole place. they were all standing in front of us. being 5' 2 1/2", i did not enjoy this. i stood on my toes.

V] the living end were pretty cool. after the show, this girl was like "he threw his guitar pick, i think it landed over here!" i looked at my feet, where there was a green dunlop pick like the guitarist had been using. "what, you mean this?" no one said anything, so i kept it.

VI] this girl, oh-so-punk with her mohawk and all, and her tall friend kept trying to push us aside and get in front of us. they would wait until we appeared to not be paying attention, and then would do what was sort of a spazz-plus-push move. we would just stand there as they made no progress. just because we are not as punk rock as them doesn't mean we haven't lost our touch. shame on them for even trying to push us out of the way.

VII] their failure was rubbed in their face as we, by no fault of our own, ended up a few rows from the front. we just went where the flow took us. they didn't seem so happy about that.

and now on to another 11 point review...this time of the green day show.

1] it was really really great to finally see them live. they had SO much energy and put on such a fantastic show. even though this was my first time actually seeing them in the flesh...i would say that they haven't lost their touch. seeing in them in such a small venue was also a very good thing.

2] i enjoyed billie joe's relentless harassment of the crowd. i enjoyed even more how the crowd ate it up like he was a god. especially notable was his taunting of the people occupying the balcony seats. "what the fuck do you think this is, a fucking tea party? stand your fucking asses up!" he accompanied this by picking up one of the spotlights and shining it on people up there, who were forced by the management of the venue to sit. "you...stand the fuck up." the only people still sitting after that were the dimwits who were insulted by what he said. they thought that they were cool by sitting down, because billie told them to stand up and god forbid they do something someone else told them to do.

3] taco and i got separated during the song "castaway". i enjoyed the band's energy...being the stuck-up bitch i am, however, i didn't enjoy the crowd to much. there wasn't even room to pogo most of the time. at one point, i was twisted in a way that i wasn't even facing the stage. it was bullshit. i've always found crowdsurfing mildly irritating [ call me a loser, whatever ]...but that's nothing compared to the crowd launching that was going on. like...they would throw people. i forgot how immature people are at these shows. a poor girl who i'm sure just wanted to watch the show and have a good time was forced to leave the floor because she got kicked in the face by one of these flying crowd-hoppers and got a bloody nose. assholes.

4] i really enjoyed the set list, although i was a tad dissapointed they didn't play some of my old favorites like "going to pasalacqua" or "paper lanterns"...or newer favorites like "walking contradiction" and "scattered". they made up for it, however, by playing "JAR" and a REALLY extended-dance-version of "knowledge". people near me seemed frightened that i knew the words to the last one. i just about crapped my pants when they played "she". i had met back up with taco by then and we just looked at each other and smiled. one of our favourites. and they started "i am iron man." ROCK ON.

5] billie kept working the crowd to a frenzy with call-and-response stuff. taco and i would always yell to each other "when i say N, you say SYNC (N...SYNC! N...SYNC!)". for our own amusement. no offense to billie or anything.

6] i must commend the horn players here. they did "hitchin' a ride", i think that they should hire me to play electric violin. it would have sounded so good in some parts. anyway, the horn players ruled. as did jason, the guitarist from pinhead gunpowder that they got to do second guitar. they gave the band such a great sound. and stuff.

7] red confetti fell down from the celing during "when i come around". like taco, i had always wanted to be at a concert where they did this but had never experienced it. thank you, green day, for making my dream come true.

8] once we got some space, taco and i danced. we got a lot of strange looks. dancing, at a GREEN DAY show? dirty pop has rotted our brains. good thing they were all too punk to recognize it...they may have decided to kick our asses. poke us with their saftey pins.

9] at one point, their regular green day banner fell to reveal a totally metal-style logo that i had seen on teeshirts. they then kicked into "platypus". so simple, yet so effective. it was no mechanical bull, but it got the job done, eh?

10] i was impressed at the legnth of the show. a lot of times shows like that feel FAR too short but this one actually feels like it was about the right legnth. i was a little dissapointed, once again, that they didn't play more 39 smooth/kerplunk tunes [ as they are some of my absolute favorites ]...but it was still green day, y'know? totally awesome.

11] i enjoyed "macy's day parade" as a closer. it put a sense of finality on the show. did leave me thinking "why did they stop?"

then, taco and i went home and ate enchiladas.

merrick called me friday. i don't usually even get calls at home. it was a plesant surprise, especially since taco was at work and i had prettymuch nothing to do. i'm jealous of her because she met joey and lance in vegas. but she brought me back postcards, so it's all cool.

all i brought back from the green day show [ besides that guitar pick ] was some kind of gross strep-like throat disease. grody.

i had found out earlier in the week that i had a gig saturday, which forced me to go home. seeing that i had no money, and i had planned on visiting my mom and having her send me back originally...i had to borrow cash from my uncle. rode the greyhound for another 6 hours saturday, had a quartet rehersal at 4:30pm and the gig at 6pm. made $50. WOO HOO!

and today, i went to a family reunion with merrick. good food, and everyone was so nice to me. i have since then threatened to bring her to one of my family functions. muahahahaha!
