i came out of my room today and looked at the television to see what looked like footage of a bad car wreck on a rainy street. god forbid i ever look at anything without my glasses on...it turned out to just be the presidential inaguration parade. so i sat down and watched it.

and i figured it out...what bothers me so much about the protesters. now, don't get me wrong. i'm all for progress in society...but that's just it. i watched the parade and i saw the people lining the roads with various signs reading "bush=racism" and "hail to the theif"...and i thought, what progress is the bringing about? what problems are these people solving by yelling out that they don't agree? i think we can all safely come to the conclusion that it had no effect on the situation at hand...george w bush, unless i've missed something in the last 12 hours or so, is still our president. apparently, he wasn't scared off by the mean things the sign said.

basically, as i see it, the only thing these protesters managed to accomplish was a bunch of very vocal complaining. yes, so now we know that you don't agree with bush's ideas and the fact that he is president. is the world any better today? no. it's not. yet it seems like a lot of people think that by waving their sign, they're moving some kind of mountian. it's selfish. why, instead of complaining and yelling and creating a stink, don't the protesters actually get out and do something to enrich society? there are a billion productive things any one person could do in a day...even if they're small and don't seem like a whole lot, they're probably a lot more productive than the hours you spend yelling. chasing windmills gets you nowhere.

i will say, however, that sometimes in history protest has been needed, and will be needed in the future. but in the case of the presidential inaguration...think about it. i mean...i guess by going out and protesting no one hurt anything but...i don't see what it changed. besides the volume of garbage in many large cities. i guess it all comes down to this simple point: bush is still president, the world is still riddled with problems, but fortunately the sun will still rise tomorrow....

...take advantage of that situation and go make a difference in someone's life other than your own.
