"brian", not straight boys, bad predictions, and laying the smackdown on west-side mukilteo

3-11-'o1: 6:09pm

oh yes. i'm back.

i think i fell in love with the boy that worked at the top foods store across the street from our hotel. top foods is run by the same company that runs haggen...i could tell because they were selling haggen milk...and the store was laid out almost exactly like the one in stanwood. it brought back memories. ruth and i decided that it was a sub-portal to hell...as in, it was a portal to the portal in stanwood, which is a portal to hell. anyway, so the night that we were 56-0, me, ruth, and someone else [ i can't remember who ] went and got a sandwich and some things for lizzy and bring them to the checkout. i think i was third in line before i really registered the true beauty of the checkout boy. he rang up my purchaces, got me my change, and smiled at me as he gave it to me. he touched my hand.

the next night, when we were 56-1, we all very depressedly went to top foods. this time, it was with lizzy and eventually, speevis, seth, jed, kiri, sheli, andrea, and the likes. they were all there. and as i neared the front with a huge mountian dew for chrissy and a diet coke for myself, i saw him again. he was working the same checkout, i think. i got in line and they opened a new line...the woman working it beckoned to me, telling me that i could be next. i shook my head, and made up possibly the lamest excuse ever: i was waiting for some friends. maybe it's not that lame, because it was true...but i may have been better off if i hadn't.

pretty soon, speev, seth, and jed prance on over. with sheli and kiri, of course. i tell sheli and kiri...that's the guy. they're impressed...and apparently, so are the boys. seth has a brilliant idea..."who has some gum? let's pretend like we're gay. wouldn't that be funny?" speevis was already wearing his shirt in a questionable fashion...just the arms were on so the rest of the shirt was on his back and his chest was bare. questionable not reffering to his sexuality, but to his general sanity, really. jed then decides to do what he was going to do as he was walking in the store...he takes his shirt and ties it up on one side, showing off his non-existent waist.

i'm not kidding. he's the skinniest person ever.

seth did nothing out of the ordinary.

and by now, i'm laughing.

"oh, juth thtop it!" jed says. or something like that.

i turn to whoever was next to me, i don't remember. "who are these guys? i certianly don't know them." they were making asses of themselves, i wanted to make it known that i had nothing to do with it. but nonetheless, i cracked up, even though i knew it just encouraged them more.

by that time, it was my turn with the dreamy checkout boy. as he was ringing up my purchaces, he said "hey...weren't you in here last night?"

"...yeah...." he recognized me. i better look for a wedding dress. siiiiiiiiiigh.

"and you had bright orange hair. i remember you." this was true, which made it even more amazing that he'd recognized me. i'd worn the wig to the game both nights, it was only this night that i'd taken it off and got it to the room before i went to the store. my hair was piled up on my head and pinned with bobby pins...it looked pretty sorry actually. the wig, by the way, looked best on ormson, who had tried it on at the mall. we got a picture...he has the right shaped head for it. jed didn't look nearly as good in it, if you ask me.

"yeah, and i did until about 20 minutes ago when i took the wig off...after we lost and all." i had been quite depressed.

he seemed to be extra slow in ringing up my stuff and getting my change. i only bought two sodas. "that's too bad...was it a bad loss?" his concern touched me. august would be a good month to get married.

"we lost by one point. one point." it was terrible, really. 6 seconds or so to go, and redmond makes a basket, putting them a point ahead of us. or something. i can't really remember how we got to that point. the fact of the matter is, there were about 5 seconds left on the clock, and we had the ball. they clal 2 time-outs in a row to discuss how we're going to pull off a win. it killed. so basically, lelani had the ball, and the plan was for her to go down the court and make a shot. it was possible for us to win. she dribbles, shoots...and is fouled from aobut three directions. i'm not kidding. there's no way it couldn't have been a foul...but no foul was called. we lost. it was a bitter failure. the pep band and most of the student section shouted "bullshit, bullshit" until matt and other people of sense told them to shut up. the last thing we needed after that loss was to be quoted in the paper as being poor-sports.

at some point, speevis and someone else were deflowering a garbage can. seth or jed, i can't remember which one. once again, i pretended to be ignorant of them and failed.

he gave me my change and i joined the crew as they left...with the boys continuing their sexual masquarade into the parking lot. i told sheli and kiri about the checkout guy talking to me...but realized that i still didn't know his name. kiri said he looked like a brian...or a lance. i said lance wouldn't work because lance was lance bass from *nsync...like, duh. at some point later, we decided we'd name him brian.

as we crossed the street into the parking lot of the hotel [ after speevis almost got himself killed by stepping into the road in front of an oncoming pickup ], the boys spied a sign. it had been the tradition on this particular trip for speev to jack signs from places and stick them up his shirt...mostly wet paint signs [ of which he got two ], and one metal sign that said "win me!". the sign they saw was a lot more appetizing, however...a large sign that said "speed limit: 25mph" on the fence by the parking lot. jokingly, they run to go "get" it...and end up pulling it right off the fence because it was barely hanging there. they ran...they're "bad"...but not that bad.

that was the day that we also went to the zoo. i like the zoo, it's fun. sheli and kiri, at one point, told me that they had to talk to me later. about a prediction they had about me and someone hooking up. i think at that very second i knew who it was. his last name ends with an r [ name has been hidden to protect the innocent, but partially revealed to rule out other subjects ]. and i was like....if it's [ insert name of person who's last name ends in r ], then i will have to smack someone upside the head. i told lizzy and some other people my prediction of their prediction as we went into the store that night.

"no..." i think is what they said. they then went on to say that they thought it was probably jed...which would have been a very strange prediction but more likely, at least, than ends-with-r. later, when we were all sitting around the table in the lobby, and i was still floating from seeing "brian"...kiri and sheli told me their prediction.

and i have never been so right. ever. i told them that i could see how we'd look like a cute couple and all...but i'd kill him. they said sorry but i said thanks anyway, it was nice to know they were looking out for me and all on the guy front.

the guy front is a very depressing place for me. in the van last night on the way back from the orchestra festival, we were talking about guys. i told them that the outlook for a relationship in high school was zero for me, because they aren't looking for a girl like me. it's totally true. and while i shouldn't have to need a guy or anything, like mrs lane always says...i still feel lonely. oh well, i guess.

ironically, the basketball team and the orchestra both brought back 4th place [ ed. note, 3-18: the basketball team actually brought back 6th place. i have no clue how that works...but it sure shoots the hell out of that idea ]. we were on our way home from gresham in the van when we got the phone call saying that there was a chance that we could make finals, so we drove all the way back and sat in a room full of some alright people and some really irritating ones to hear announced that we had fourth place. we drove back immediately afterward. we got a trophy, though....which was good. i don't think the orchestra has ever won anything. it's a good start...4th our of 16 ain't bad, in the big picture.

the sad thing is that kamiak got 3rd. i think next year that we should lay the smackdown on kamiak. west-side mukilteo is goin DOWN!

and that's about it for what was interesting. that i can remember anyway.

werrrrrrd!
