optimus prime and the music of the 80's

4-21-'o1: 4:00pm

errrrrrrrr.

so, i had an interesting week. as in...i really can't say whether it was a good week or a bad week. it was one of those weeks that went to extremes...the bad was really bad. the good was really good. so i guess they both kind of cancel each other out, if you think about it. i don't think about it, really.

picking up where i left off, though. with the car and all. so we left at 8:30am the next morning, thinking that we'd get the car back home so my dad could take it to the mechanic. bow-wow vw is right down the street from my uncle's place, but my dad thought it would be more logical to get the car repaired by buck, whom he knows. turned out not to be such a great choice. the car gave us hell until finally, up at the quaint little southbound viewpoint above ellensburg, my dad decided to stop and try and fix the problem. that was the next mistake. we ended up spending four hours up there while he practically took the engine apart and put it back together. i called down to the band room, like a true nerd, to make sure sherry knew where i was and to say that i most likely wouldn't be there for any of symphony. it at least gave me peace of mind. then, he got the car back together, and we headed back onto the interstate.

by selah, it was smoking. we stopped at the maid o' clover and i had possibly the best-tasting sub i'd ever had in my life. turkey-bacon-guacamole...mmmm. we figured we'd let it cool off and then we'd head back onto the road.

we got as far as buena before the car just gave out. someone on the road called us in as a car fire. i called kelly, she came and picked us up. i really owe her one this time...she's always getting me out of the most fantastic jams. needless to say, i didn't make it back for any of symphony.

and to make matters worse...not only does my dad now have to drive my car, the tourist [ something i would not wish on ANYONE ], but someone also came and looted our car before it got towed. took the tools, the CD player, and the sleeping bag.

anyway, the good thing that came out of this is that buck is giving us a new motor for the car because the other one was defective. really. so at least we're going to have a car to drive BESIDES the tourist. today, we were driving back from CBC after i performed with the madhatters at the jazz fest, and lo and behold...ormson was driving behind us. my dad asks "is that sparky?" and i thought good lord, dad, who else has a car like that? anyway, so i turn around and wave and eventually, he gets to the side of us and gets a little ahead of us and acts like he's racing. eventually [ and sadly ], he fell behind. he opened his window and i yelled "your car sucks!" eventually we stopped at a light...and he says "hey mike, moving up in the world, are we?" [ in reference to my lovely '81 honda civic ]. i said "it's my car!" and added "and you shut up! i sleep in it!" i guess you had to be there. it was funny.

ormson and lack are obsessed with transformers. hell yes. and personally, i think that lack should come in and teach IB music one day...because i really would like to learn how optimus prime had an effect on the music of the 80's. he came in, wrote "more than meets the eye" in the corner of the board, and then:

(autobots)
decepticons

a little lower. after that, we listened to a bunch of strange 20th century music. george crumb. talked about john cage. and tone rows. yeah. i think i'm still lost. i think the 80's music lesson would have been a lot more fun.

and the rest of the week was...i slept very little. my sister was here, so not only did i sleep little but i had to sleep on my lumpy couch, which made the sleep that i did get fretful and uncomfortable. having her here wasn't all that bad...she came to colourguard once, and totaly pooped out on it. like, she wouldn't do anything. i don't know what everyone was expecting...i told them, she's a different person. we're like night and day. were they thinking that she'd somehow turn into me? it won't happen. no matter how hard anyone tries.

i'm really enjoying tryouts, though. i get to help the girls learn all the technique, and i've found that not only am i pretty good at teaching it to them, but that i like it and they like me. always a plus. a lot of them ask for me specifically when they want help. makes me feel useful.

and today, i got my very first scholarship. a $1000 housing scholarship to CWU...not a huge deal or anything but it is $$$$. i got it based on my sucky performance of concerto in g minor when i auditioned. i'm surprised they didn't make me pay them just for having to suffer through that. yikes. i wish that they'd been there the next time i'd played it, maybe i would have gotten $2000. and maybe even $3000 after my flawless execution of the pirate joke.

ok. so now, i think i'll go because i'm going to get a phone call to see whether the madhatters are getting called back for the CBC jazz fest. i hope so. i want to play "since i fell". sweet.
