the siberia of washington

5-6-'o1:7:26pm

so i went to prom. lizzy offered to pay if i participated in a contest where you could win money if you wore duct tape. i thought...what the heck! might as well.

that's me in the middle. i didn't think i'd find another use for the wig i wore to state...it turned out to be well worth my 10 bucks!

prom did turn out to be something i'd never forget...but not exactly in that magical, swept-off-your-feet kind of way that they always talk about. and not just because of the duct tape...that attracted a lot of attention...it was a small detail.

it was the second to last dance...a slow dance. all the guys immediately grabbed girls and jess and i were left on the outskirts. not that i minded a whole lot. we went and got some punch [ it had so much sugar in it, i'm surprised i didn't go into a coma ], talked. then, that dance ended and they announced the final dance. another slow dance, of course. and again...the guys grabbed girls and jess and i were left on the outskirts. then, jon comes over and jess is like "dance with me, jon." chris comes over and asks sabrina, who is standing a little bit away, to dance. then, i am left. alone. the last dance of my senior prom.

don't get me wrong...i'm not really bummed about this. i find it more funny than anything else. it kind of summed up all of high school for me, right in those three minutes or so. eventually, i went and sat down and waited for the dance to end, laughed to myself.

my senior prom, and i didn't dance with a single guy. and i did ask, once. it was a slow tune, everyone was coming together, and my friend bobby was standing there so i asked him to dance.

"uh...sure...i guess...but this song gets fast in a second here."

and it did. maybe God just didn't want me to dance with anyone.

i had fun anyway, though. it was nice after last week, which was somewhat hellish. thursday night i was tired as crap, trying to sleep but having an anxiety attack of sorts so i only really half-slept for hours at a time. my alarm went off every so often so i could get online and look up some information, but every time before midnight that i got up, my father was online. so i finally set my alarm for 3:30am and went to bed for real. it ended up working, except by 10pm friday night when i went to bed i was absolutely useless. not sleeping all week and then screwing up my sleeping schedule even further wasn't such a hot idea.

and THEN i got up at 6:30am saturday to get ready and make sure that everything got ironed out concerning my hinman scholarship application/interview. somehow i managed to get it all pulled together, but i don't think they liked me much. 10 bucks says that mary gets the scholarship. seriously. i'll take on anyone with this bet. then, since it was such a lovely day and i had accuired $20, i went to the methodist and catholic yard sales. for $3.50 total, i got: three pairs of jeans, five teeshirts, a visor, and a pair of shoes. it would have been $2.75, but i donated an extra $.75 to the methodist folks because...it just felt like the right thing to do.

friday, actually, was pretty good, though. i managed to continually pull things off...like, i called the masonic people about setting up an interview for the hinman, managed to finish my ib english exam in an hour, and got a call from eastern washington university. the good news: they seem to want me. like, REALLY. the band news: time is short [ " sleepygoof01: "the band news" <-- supposed to be "the bad news"? " it was. but it apparently shows what's on my mind. cracks me up. ]. i need to figure this out by next weekend. so we are going up to cheney friday so i can look around and audition and stuff. one thing is for sure...the weather sure is nicer there than it is in ellensburg. if yakima is the "palm springs of washington"...then ellensburg, we agreed, is the siberia of washington. fog, wind, cold. repeat. snow and wind in the winter, wind in the summer.

anyway. this week, at any rate, should be less stressful than the last. then again, that's what i said about LAST week. and look what happened. yikes.
