nobody deserves to be hit with a stick 3-18-'o1: 5:03pm phew. we had a windstorm tuesday. normally, this means nothing except a lot of sneezing. this time, however, it knocked down the crappy-ass fence between our house and next door. my dad and the neighbors got it back standing up, and in the process, my dad enlarged his hernia and got a piece of his small intestine stuck in there. so i spent 5 hours in the KGH emergency room while they argued on whether to cut my dad open or not. in the end, they decided that they'd do surgery the next morning. by then mrs lane was waiting in the room with me, in case i had to stay there. the surgery went well. he just has to take some strong painkillers and he can't lift anything.he even went to work the day after they cut him up, the turd. and the week went on. large group choral was cool...missed the half-day and went and listened to a bunch of choirs from around the area, sang...etc. went out to lunch with dan, where we had taco salads at tumbleweeds and ice cream at baskin robins. dan paid for me, and i promised to pay him back by buying him lunch next week at disneyland. dan is the MAN! then, solo/ensemble was friday. my goal was not to suck. i just about crapped a brick when i saw all I's by my ensembles...AND my solo. i was one of 6 I's by the time all the violin solo scores were posted. i honestly had arrived at pasco high sure that i had no chance of making state, besides the percusion ensemble. turns out, all three performances i was in recieved state titles. the percussion ensemble got a I-, the highest score in the category, which sends us to state. the string quartet got a I, and we were one of the two category winners, so we will deifnitely perform in state competition. and as for my solo...i got 2nd alternate for state. phew again. after the II- i got last year....yeah. giant steps. our drama department's production of "don't drink the water" was fabulous. i saw it three times. i figured that i should support the program...there's no question that it's on the rise and it's going to be absolutely killer after i graduate. the first night i went to denny's afterward and proceeded to take 5 years off my life by eating enough to kill a small animal. the banana split they gave me was ridiculous...it was on a dinner plate for god's sake. mr dad and russ, who i was eating with, helped me. i probably would have died right there and then if it'd eaten it all. then, last night, i went and crashed the cast party...if by "crash" you mean that i ate food, hung out with connor [ who deinfitely one of the coolest people there ], and watched "so i married an axe murderer". it was at russ' house, which was a very nice house indeed. i never made it to the studio...i have this thing where i don't like to wander around people's houses unless i've been there before and they've shown me around or given me permission or whatever. i'm funny like that. i was also afraid to walk on the carpet with my shoes on and i wouldn't answer the phone even though it was ringing in my hand. it took me about 20 minutes to figure out how to use the stupid phone. that's right, folks. i'm not just crazy, i'm stupid as well! in between doing things, i procrastinate on doing homework by typing out a bunch of taco's old dreams. circa early '96. i started burning insense again, that always makes me feel nostalgic. the dreams are funny as crap, but i don't think they would make any sense to you. i got new shoes. gray suede new balance running shoes. they were 19 bucks at basin department store, the store that doesn't get rid of inventory, it just stacks up the old stuff and puts new stuff on the racks. they have the biggest selection of rust-coloured lowtop converse i've ever seen in my life...but i was there to get all-purpose shoes. i think these are like, top-of-the-line 80's technology shoes. i did my IB oral thursday, and clemmens said that it was one of the best he'd ever done. "and, cydne, is there anything else you'd like to add?" he asked me, his finger hovering over the stop button. "yeah...i was a little dissapointed that i didn't get to do my oral on shakespere, seeing that it is the ides of march and all." anyway...i think i'm going to go make nina a CD....WOO HOO! it gives me an excuse to try out my CD labeler. and i'll get to my vietnam timeline...honest. later. ←/ b a c k w a r d / f o r w a r d /→ |
