surprise symphony 6-30-'o1: 10:51am i was going to type out the entire story of the surprise party on friday but then i realized that it was kind of boring. kiri tried to trick me by telling me that we had a quartet practice but i had a feeling something was up. it was nice to know that everyone cared enough to come. there was a cake and everything. steven and matt put all the candles in the center so that when lit, they made a gigantic ball of flame. i was surprised that steven didn't take the time to paint a skull on the cake while kiri wasn't looking. my birthday was more or less unevetful. i slept in, mostly because my alarm didn't go off, and then got up and sat around. practiced spinning my rifle some more. i think that since the last time i updated, i have gained quite a few more bruises...one is a pretty substantial one on my wrist. i had a quartet rehersal [ real this time ] at 4pm yesterday, way out at a church in the middle of nowhere. only becca and i were there, so it sounded pretty crappy. there were these two guys who were singing in the wedding and i felt like i was being totally hit on by them. they had hired a sound guy, who insisted that he gives us a mic. we don't need a mic...we're a string quartet for gosh sakes! we try to tell him that we'll project more than enough, esepcially in the room we're playing in [ which has surprisingly good acoustics ], but he proceeds to look shocked that we are trying to tell him how to do his job. i just think that giving us a mic will ruin the integrity of the sound. and unlike the last gig, where the sound left my instrument and went who-knows-where...i could hear the sound coming back to me from all sides of the room here. so whatever. he can give us a mic if it makes him feel better, but he better damn well keep it turned down. i went to see moulin rouge again at 10pm with mer. i seriously love that movie. it was shoing in the theatre in the very back, and mer went to open the door to get in but it was actually a broom closet instead of a door, unlike all the other theatres. it was one of the funniest things i've ever seen. sorry, mer. and then. some guy comes in and is like "ugh! i almost went into the broom closet!" funny stuff. after the movie we went and got frostys at wendys and when pop came on the radio, i forced her to drive around until the song was over. nothing like a bit of dirty pop to end the evening. oh, yes. and that was my birthday. ho-hum. ←/ b a c k w a r d / f o r w a r d /→ |
