touched by fire

7-7-'o1: 1:41pm

i spoke too soon in my last entry.

the fourth of july went like it normally did. i don't know how much alcohol the people down the beach had consumed, but they get the award for the most ground explosions. we get second...i'm beginning to think that there was a certian kind of shell that was just prone to spazzing out. i didn't light anything this year...just sat back and watched like the loser that i am.

we ran out of fireworks around 11pm, and then everyone had to leave. i was pretty tired and it was pretty lame with everyone gone, so i just decided to go to bed. i had to get up early the next morning to go visit my mom, anyway.

so i was asleep at 3:30am, and my sister woke up because she was cold. we'd managed to close all the windows but this one tricky little bugger that you have to close from the outside. my sister, being half asleep, didn't want to go outside to shut it because she said there was a "'weird light". "i thought it was aliens and that they were going to abduct me or something." but it was cold enough that she bit the bullet and went outside to shut it.

it wasn't aliens, though. it was all the driftwood on the beach in front of our property. on fire.

ON FIRE.

the amount of control we all excersized was impressive. no one really freaked out. we managed to save a lot of the furnature on the deck and whatnot. our old metal motor boat was melted and burned, and is now a long twisty piece of metal. one of our little sailboats is now a heap of melted mess. the little deck over the beach is demolished. so is the walkway to the water. but no one was hurt, and it didn't spread to anyone else's property, so that's fortunate. by the time the fire dept got there, the flames were 25 feet high. no one really knows how it started. i watched it from inside. so now, i guess this is the most amount of fire i've ever seen. go figure.

my trip, other than that, was good. a fun time was had by all at casa de taco on the 3rd, and i had a good [ but far too brief ] time with my mom. now, i'm back in the hot ol' tri-cities. it's back to finding a job and running at the track every day. wooooo hoo.
