the truth serum
3-24-'02: sometime in the dark the truth serum he wakes up in the morning and takes a shower
about an hour or so before he has to go to class
he's past her now, he thinks
as he brushes his teeth and drinks his coffee
he walks down that lonely snowcovered path
thinking about that math test he didn't end up studying for
the night before
he knows deep in his heart there has to be something more
than another not-so-lonely night
when she comes to call at 1am
and she tells us she just didn't want to walk home alone
when we ask her where the hell she's been
and he asks her not to tell us
what went on all those nights
but a few weeks and a couple drinks later
yeah, right. and the snow continues to fall
through the strange and still post-winter air
